"We are preparing to touch down Captain!" one of the pilot yelled through the steel belly of a giant transport ship. The ship was still heavy armed, small anti-air twin-laser cannons on the sides rear and back while a heavy proton cannon marked the top of the ship.
Heinrich looked at his watch and set it to the correct time, he lifted up his helmet putting it in. "Men we have 30minutes to get in and out with the artifact before the local sensors detect us!" he said while his men where putting on their helmets and checking their weapons. This was a usual thing for Heinrich, after being released from the military he made himself and asset to company's in retrieving special equipment or putting down revolts on their industrial planets.
The ship started shaking from entering the atmosphere of the planet. The pilot looked back towards Heinrich "Prepare for punch out!" he yelled towards him. Heinrich made sure his weapons where secured in the pod he was in. The Door of his pod and 6 more closed, the inside was light up by a red light. Then a green light appeared and a strong jolt shoot the One-Man pod down towards the surface. "Damn how I hate this shit" he said to himself, the boosters kicked in a slowed down the pod and in a few seconds a strong blast cloud was seen on the surface.
Heinrich opened the door stepping out into the hot and dry weather, he sprinted up the small crater his pod created and looked over the edges of the sand dunes. "There it is men, everyone take up positions! John and Carl take point!" he said while holding the speak button on his radio what was sitting in a pocket on his combat vest. Two men appeared from craters left by the pods near by and where running towards a bunch of ruins, covered by sand and destroyed debris hardly anything was visible of the former structure. The two men made it to a broken down wall and knelled behind it, one looking into the ruins, "All clear!" a voice said over the radio. Heinrich and the other 4 men got up running towards the ruins. "You two secure the entrance, Carl mark the landing sport!" Heinrich said "Contact the transporter Micheal and notify them we are all clear!" he commanded.
Shortly after the huge transporter touched down onto the sandy surface wheeling up a giant dust cloud, the back hatch dropped down and three vehicles drove out. Two where Armored Transport vehicles modified with Anti-tank guns. The two defenders took up position next to the ruins. The two Defenders and the transport ship created a triangle perimeter of 50 yards around the ruins. The third vehicle was a long range mobile communication command post what took up position near the entrance. 30 more Armed men walked out in two columns from the belly of the ship taking up positions around the ruins and getting into squads to enter the ruins. "Lets go!" Heinrich lead the first squad in while a second one followed, all together 16men entered the ruins.
Heinrich walked past walls with paintings and examined some of them with the light of his flashlight. He stopped at a strange picture and examined it for a while. "Strange I have never seen something like this before.." he said under his breath while his squad took up positions in the hallway securing the rear of the second squad who ranged ahead. Heinrich turned to one of his man "Take pictures of these walls here they have something to do with the artifact and you two stay with him the rest follow me!" with this Heinrich ventured deeper into the ruins with the rest of his squad. "Captain we have found it!" the radio said "Secure the position I will be there in 5 minutes". Heinrich and his men picked up the pace to link up with second squad. Passing stone columns mixed with computers and interaction pads they stopped in a room a few yards down from the main room. Strange steel like pods where line up against the walls. "Sir we have tried to open the doors of the pods but nothing worked" one of the soldiers said who walked back from the main hall.
"Captain our sensors have picked up some strange signals entering the atmosphere and hea..." the radio went dead. The ruins rumbled, small debris of stone falling down from the walls and ceiling. Heinrich pressed the talk button "Repeat we lost connection" Heinrich looked at his squad "Reapeat" he said once more. "Dammit Transport ship do you Copy?!" he half way yelled. Two more rumbles went through the ruins, medium sized stone tiles falling from the ceiling damaging interaction pads and other electronic equipment from the creators of this facility. "Lt. retrieve the artifact where heading out of here!" Heinrich said while running back towards the entrance.
Two men with laser cutters went towards a large metal box in the middle of the main hall, a small sized window with a shield gave a look into the box where a metal skull was in. Suddenly the lights and electric equipment jumped on in the whole ruins, numbers and words where rushing over the screens. Lt. Hernandez looked around and then a screaming metal noise caught his attention from the room with the metal pods. "Take up positions!" he yelled a few mens took cover behind tables and storage boxes while 4 went towards the entrance of the hall flanking the side of the giant columns.
Heinrich stopped looking back towards the where the main hall was. Firing noise appeared and he hit the talk button on his radio "Hernandez come in" there was no answer "Hernandez come in!" he said once more, still nothing. "Shit what is going on here!" he said while making his way to the entrance of the ruins. Explosions and firing sounds made him aware of a battle going and he slowly approached the entrance. Laser fire and bullets flew past the entrance, three giant walking machines where destroying the whole recovery team. "god dammit lets go!" he said while running towards a wall, he looked over it dead body's where all over the ground. A giant walking machine was standing the ruins of the transport ship, it level its arm towards one of the defenders what fired at it hardly doing any damage. A purple flash went off the hand of the machine blasting the Defender into bits and pieces. Heinrich opened fire at human looking like creatures walking beneath the machines feet. Bullets ripped through their armor taking 10 of them down from the fire of Heinrich's squad. Finally the group of about 32 enemy's noticed them and headed towards them firing laser pistol. Heinrich took cover while laser beams impacted all around them sending stone and sand debris up into the air. Heinrich looked towards his left one of his men was laying on the ground his face blown off. He got back up and fired while moving to his right towards a toppled column. Heinrich slid towards the column for safety and just made it in time, one of his men who was right behind him got blasted into bits and pieces by a rocket. "Shit, lucky me of course!" Heinrich got back up unloading his magazine into 2 of the cyborg soldiers who where heading towards his position. Suddenly a giant blast from the entrance erupted and two soldiers came flying out, their bodys all burned. Heinrich watched how a machine like robot walked out of the entrance, red eyes looking straight at him. It level the machine gun it had in its hand towards Heinrich when suddenly someone yelled "Fire in the hole!" and the Robot was blasted against a wall from the grenade that detonated behind him. Two of his soldiers where cut down quickly by a second robot walking out. Heinrich got up reloaded his weapon and fired his bolter at the thing. Bullets ripped through the Robots neck and head shattering it into pieces. The body fell to the ground but caught itself and got back up. "Just my luck" Heinrich said while he kept the firing at the machine and slowly walking towards the wreckage of one of the defenders. The heavy bolter bullets just dented the things armor and just kept walking towards Heinrich.
A second machine robot walked out of the entrance the metal skull in its hands and walked towards one of the giant battle machines. 5 of the cyborg followers started firing at Heinrich once more. Heinrich looked around and he was the only one left, he sprinted back towards the Defenders wreck and took shelter inside and started to open fire on the 5 advancing cyborgs and the headless machine. He went behind one of the heavy walls of the wreck reloading his weapon "Last magazine" he said while laser shoots impacted all around him. He looked around and found a grenade, he picked it up and turned towards the advancing enemy and started firing, bullet after bullet went through his barrel hitting the headless machine monster and taking down two of the Cyborg troopers. He hit the red button and threw the grenade a few feet infront of the machine and threw himself down into the sand. Sand rained over him from the explosion, it ripped the machine into pieces. He got up and looked how the three giant machines started boosters and took of launching themselves into space. One of the Cyborg was laying a few feet away, its legs blown away and blood running from its mouth. Heinrich walked up and looked at the thing while it tried to get a hold of the pistol just out of its reach.
The Cyborg was unusual, its whole face was covered in some kind of machine, half of it blown away showing a blue skin beneath the machine helmet. The thing looked at Heinrich "We shall take this Universe again!" it said and Heinrich squeezed the trigger sending a bolter bullet into the things head ripping it into pieces.
Heinrich scavenged some magazines and ration packs and headed east towards the Oasis, this was just his day he though. no way of communication and about 4 days away from the nearest Space Port would be a hard time to survive under this hot and dry weather. With this he made his way forward leaving the battle field behind him.
